Kappa was born of a sock and underwear company named Maglificio Calzificio Torinese (MCT) in 1916 in the italian city Turin. Kappa was created as a sub-brand of the Aquila brand as a result of a production problem that had caused a loss in sales. The production problem was fixed and all new product was stamped with a K, standing for the german word for control, Kontrollen. Sales surged and in 1967 the K was formally called Kappa, the greek letter for K.
